WELCOME: About Me

Harry Jimenez, owner of Galapagos Eco Lodge, at Post Office Bay
My name is Harry Jiménez.  I am certified by the Galapagos National Park Service and regularly serve as the Naturalist and guide on many of the most luxurious cruises serving the Galapagos Islands.  I was born in the Galapagos Islands, on San Cristobal Island and am the third generation of my family to live here.

My very earliest memories are of waking up in the morning to mockingbirds and finches. Each day was an adventure on the land and in the water. It was quite different just a few decades ago, before the national park service really applied itself to assuring that our beautiful and unique environment is carefully and systematically protected from invasive species and other influences that would impact the delicate natural balance within the Galapagos Land and Marine Reserves.

My personal dedication to the environment and sustainability has its roots in my childhood and the changes that I personally have experienced. I want people to come to Galapagos and be immersed in the very same wonders that have always existed for me in this Paradise.

I am the owner the Galapagos Eco Friendly on San Cristobal Island, a boutique accommodation that is located in the very same private enclave in which my family lives. Ecotourism has its basis in sharing the culture of the host country. I believe that there is no better way to promote and share our cultural heritage than to open our land, our experiences and our way of life to guests from around the world.

Galapagos Eco Friendly is my personal endeavor to create a hotel that focuses on preservation and conservation while it brings each of its visitors all the comforts of home.  It is the perfect home base for day trips around the Eastern Galapagos Islands. At the hotel, you will relax, swim, be introduced to our local culture and have private moments to contemplate and absorb the stunning sites and remarkable vistas that you are exposed to during each day of your stay.

We want to be your home away from home while you visit the marvelous vistas and breathtaking scenery off the coast of San Cristobal. The lodge has a stunning ocean view, very comfortable rooms, and is built to make you feel like home while you are surrounded by the Lodge's beautiful plant life endemic to the Galápagos Islands.

In this blog, I will be taking you with me on some of my adventures.  I will share experiences with you.  I will teach you about the Galapagos Islands natural history and help you prepare yourself to visit the Galápagos Islands.  Galapagos is the home to amazing wild life on the land, in the sky and in the sea. Be prepared to experience sea lions, giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, Nazca boobies, frigate birds, brown pelicans, ocean and land turtles, mockingbirds, Darwin finches, yellow warblers, and a large and visually stunning variety of tropical fish in the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

I want to give you a warm welcome to paradise.
